The Coffs Coast Only Internet Only Radio Station

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why doesn’t the music player appear on all your pages?

A. We don’t really know. It should appear everywhere, but every so often it hides. Perhaps a programmer can help us out on this one?

Q. Why is the music played on your website such low quality? I have broadband, why didn’t it detect high.coffsharbourgeekradio.com instead?

A. Your connection hasn’t been detected incorrectly. We decided that the website should play the lowest quality stream, to suit as many potential listeners as possible, including those with dial-up connections. Please use the Tune In links underneath the player to play a higher quality stream in your favourite music player.

Q. Why does the music skip or have popping sounds?

A. It’s possible the audio servers are overloaded. Try listening to one of the alternate streams. Be mindful of other internet traffic you may have running on your computer. Download programs that utilise the Bit Torrent network or other P2P software like Limewire, may cause the music to skip and pop.

Q. I can access the CHGRadio website, but none of the music audio streams are working. What’s going on?

A. It’s likely the broadcast server is experiencing a problem. I.E, the music is not getting to the public listening servers. Don’t worry, we probably already know about it and are working to get it fixed ASAP!

Q. I can’t access your website or any of the music streams! What’s going on?

A. Houston… We have a problem…

Q. I have a dialup connection. Can you cater for me?

A. We sure can! When you download the play list, simply by plugging “listen.chgradio.com” (without the quotes) into your favourite internet browser, you will see 10 different items in the list. Choose the last (10th) item. This item will connect you to a stream setup specifically for Dial Up Users Only!

Q. Why aren’t the Secondary or Tertiary Streams working?

A. These are back up streams and will only activate when the primary streams go offline. Adding to that, the tertiary streams will only activate if the secondary and primary streams are both offline.

Q. Your primary stream is offline, and neither the Secondary or Tertiary stream is available. What’s happening?

A. We use an audio relay system to broadcast. Please wait a few moments (ok, at least 30 seconds) if the Primary stream still does not come online, then there is a problem and we are likely already looking into it. A 5 - 10 minute window is allowed before the Secondary and finally the Tertiary streams will become available. This allows the relay to correct any buffer under run it is experiencing.

Q. I saw a messaging saying “Account Suspended”. What’s up with that?

A. Out hosting provider has been having a few issues with our broadcasting nature of operations. Rather then give them a bad rap and move to a new provider, we’ve decided to stick with them through and through (unless things get really bad), and work through the issues as we go.

Q. My computer has linux, not Windows. Can I still listen?

A. Yes, but you already knew that.

Q. Ok, so I have linux, and I knew that I was able to listen. What programs are supported?

A. Any linux compatible audio player that supports MP3 streaming. Basically, if your player can listen to an MP3, and load a play list, chances are it will play our audio stream too.

Q. I have a Mac. Can I listen?

A. Believe it or not, iTunes can stream audio as well! Give it a try!

Q. What music players do you support?

A. You can listen to CHGRadio with any shoutcast compatible media player (which is just about any media player these days). In terms of “Support” we will provide assistance to anyone using Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes, and any media players in Linux. Please try using any of the above media players, before asking us for support with your exotic media player (foobar for example).
